Parks and Recreation: Park Safety

Just what everyone’s been waiting for! A Jerry centric episode with the added bonus of Andy Samberg guest starring. These guys are so great at making fun of him, watching them not should be awesome.

Jerry gets the unfortunate task of refilling the hummingbird feeders in the park, because the lottery was rigged. While out, he was mugged and dislocated his shoulder. Everyone agrees to be nice to Jerry even though he says he wants things to just go back the way they were. Jerry sets them up numerous times during a meeting but they all hold on back. In the end it doesn’t stick for very long, Jerry knows how much it means to them and hey, he could careless.

Leslie feels bad, that their behavior had caused Jerry’s mugging and does what she can to help. She decides to make a pledge to make the parks safer and even brings in Carl, the park’s security advisor to aid in the cause. They go on a tour of the park Jerry was mugged in and Leslie sees really how much they do need better security, regardless of the fact that Carl’s irritability factor (HIGH TO VERY HIGH) should be enough to keep anyone away.

Leslie then goes on Pawnee Today and bashes the government on Jerry’s behalf for letting this happen and letting the park system go to the shitter. While unhappy about her route, the government does grant her the money in a press conference that Jerry is asked to speak at. Leslie then mistakes Jerry’s guilt for nervousness, he didn’t actually get mugged! He fell in a creek while fishing out a breakfast burrito he dropped. Leslie covers for him and still takes the money. It’s a good cause!

Carl on the other hand is not okay with this. Leslie didn’t exactly say nice things about him on television and he has unearthed the video footage of Jerry falling in the creek and is going on Pawnee Today to expose her lies. Leslie cuts a deal with him so all they do is a ruin a segment whilst talking of Avatar. Carl finally got a new golf cart, one that was never submerged in a lake or poopoo’d all over by raccoons.

We learn a bit about Ann in the B story, maybe she isn’t as over Andy as she would like? She seems uncomfortable when April shows up and when he even get her a muffin. Apparently Andy has never bought Ann anything ever? And yet she still has that jealous look on whenever she is around those two.

I enjoy April opening up and being less like a drone and more like a person. Her reacting to Jerry in his meeting was more expressive in two minutes than she has probably been all season. Also Tom was pretty understated with his jokes, just opening the door to here Carl speak was golden, and maybe he was just too tired after all that running to be so energetic. And even for a second while talking to Mark, it’s touched upon that Jerry is terrified of his co-workers, so maybe something will come out of this—nahh. Leslie brushes that off real quick because really, those are some of the best lines each episode. You can’t! Overall, it was a fun episode, I like when they revolve around the lesser characters. Feels a bit more realistic here than in a few other shows so it all works!

Nominations for best Jerry insults of the week:

“Sorry, guys. Sorry I’m late. I got confused and took a shower after I got dressed because I’m Jerry.”
“That’s how pathetic Jerry is. He can’t even get karma right.”
“Jerry’s face is the symbol of failure”
“Damn Jerry! You jumped in a creek for a burrito? What would you do for a Klondike Bar? Kill your wife?”
“Do you want the salmon or twout? TWOUT TWOUT TWOUT TWOUT!”
