I can’t lie, even when they were in Seychelles, I had no idea where that was in Africa. So when they showed the map of where they were flying to, that was my lesson learned today. From Seychelles to Malaysia we go!
All the teams have to board a 2am ferry back to the main island of Seychelles for an airport so it becomes an even playing field from the Malaysian airport. Once they’re in Penang, they have to find the snake temple for their next clue.
Luckily for everyone that isn’t Caite or Mike, they don’t have to actually do anything with or around the snakes besides read their clue then high tail it out of there. Unfortunately for a lot of teams they lose their cabs, some of this effects the game but mostly, nope.
At the snake temple they got their Detour. The choices are Buddhist tradition or Chinese Custom. In Buddhist tradition they have to lug twelve huge incense sticks up into a temple about four flights of stairs up, and once they are all lit they get their clue. In Chinese custom the have to balance an enormous flagpole on their foreheads and walk with it 125 feet across a field. Obvious choice? Buddhist tradition.
Jet and Cord are the only team to choose Chinese custom and get it done before any team is even near finishing Buddhist tradition. Although Carol and Brandy got to the temple first and well ahead of everyone else, Brent and Caite beat them to the finish. The detectives are not far behind them.
The clue led the teams to a temple in Teluk Bahang, the cowboys are the first there. Well ahead of their competitors they find their Speed Bump They have to go to a nearby tropical spice garden and find the tea that corresponds to the ingredients that a woman is mashing up. Once they choose, they have to bring the tea to a man on a swing to confirm their choice. Even though they got the first choice wrong, they got the second and got back to the Road Block before any other team is there.
The Road Block is based upon Hindu rituals of good luck. They have to break coconuts until they find one with colored milk inside. They then must take half of the coconut and build a mini offering that is handed to the guru in the water to float away.
It takes Jet a while to find a colored coconut, but they finish and head off to the Pit Stop, the Pinang Peranakan Mansion before any team shows up.
Brent and Caite effectively lose their lead on Carol and Brandy by getting lost and get to the Road Block while the lesbians are leaving and the detectives soon after.
While all these guys are getting through the race with relative ease, it is worth noting that Dan and Jordan and Steve and Allie are having a rough time. Dan and Jordan have the worst luck with cab drivers and Steve and Allie just make a bad decision once they get lost heading to the Buddhist tradition. They go to try the Chinese custom but quickly change back, it’s too hard. They lost a lot of time behind everyone else and even though they get through the Road Block easily they just couldn’t get a leg up and are eliminated from the race.
It’s kind of a letdown when the eliminated team is the obvious one from the beginning. Plus, they forfeited their bags for a win last leg, so how long could they have really lasted in the same clothes and nothing warm to wear for the next legs? Hrmph. Hopefully next week will be better, it seems as though Carol and Brandy get what they deserve for their constant sour attitudes…
