Parks and Recreation: Telethon

Ron really is an impenetrable fortress when it comes to human emotion. Even April is giddy with excitement to see a puppy. He wants to taken outside, and when Tom shoves it in his mustache, he wants it shot. Oh boy.

Tonight is the Pawnee Cares Diabetes telethon and Leslie is excited to be hosting a four hour block of time in the night. She has made shirts, staying up all night the night before and enlisted the help of everyone in the department. Tom isn’t thrilled about it but she has him on special assignment. He has to pick up Detlef Schrempf from the airport and get him to the telethon.

Everyone settles in at the cable access studio, Leslie brought her secret stash of those Sweetums bars that give her an insane burst of energy for fifteen minutes to keep her going. Ron goes to sleep since he needs at least five hours, who knows why he even showed up. Tom takes Detlef to the Snakehole Lounge where the owner doesn’t want him to leave since he’s a hit and Tom has had one too many. As in two. Light beers.

Leslie doesn’t know what to do, so she puts Andy’s band on first and wakes Ron to get him to do something. While he does some insanely boring carpentry, April flirts with some guy on the phone to make Andy jealous and it totally goes over his head. She can just not win with this guy. Or can she? When the creeper shows up, it’s Andy that shows him the door.

Somewhere in here, Leslie convinces Mark to propose to Ann during the time Detlef was supposed to fill. He had mentioned it earlier to a super excited Leslie and Mark, though he needs some convincing, goes home to get the ring. Turns out though, Ann is not really good for this, she wants to break up with him. Called it back on Valentine’s Day! So when Mark does so up with the ring, the only way tired Leslie can think to get him off the stage is to pull down her pants. Classic Leslie.

Detlef finally does show up, with a drunk Tom in tow and gives Leslie a check to helps her reach, and surpass, her goal of $20,000. Overall, a success!

Once the telethon is over, Leslie goes over to Ann’s because she was kind of putting her off the entire time at the telethon and it seems like Ann is really going through some stuff. Ann said it was a great talk, and then Leslie slept for at least 22 hours. That’s some sort of record, I’m sure.

I just met these quotes, but I know we’re going to be best friends:

    “Diabetes…yuck!”
“Brooks Brothers Boys is like, the cuts are slimmer and it’s cheaper.”
“I suffer from a sleep disorder called sleep fighting.”
“You ever see this man sleep? It’s like underwater ballet.”
“I love her so much but I think I’m going to draw a mustache on her face.”
