Family – amirite? Or am I right? The thing is I know I’m right – in these contemporary times (the future!) the much more normal family is the dysfunctional family. Usually television will make a mother or father super kooky in a broad fashion, but Louis C.K. knows that. So instead, he kept it real and wrote an episode in which his mother was subtle and oblivious to how inconsiderate, self-centered, and tactless she can be to her children. A lot of comedians are funny on the stand-up stage but terrible by the time they try their hand in television. To be fair, not all of them retain creative control when they get their own show. But also to be fair, they should try harder to get it. Louis C.K. took advantage of his status as one of the funniest comedians going right now by getting his own show on FX where he writes, directs and edits every single episode. And because he is a veteran of television writing and making humorously quirky short films, C.K. deserves it. Even better, C.K decided to use those obscure short film smarts in his new show.
